The EF-S 55-250 f/4-5.6 IS (I or II), introduced in 2007, is much better. Designed specifically for the "crop" digital EOS cameras, it employs a UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) element which reduces CA in increases sharpness. And Image Stabilization is a very useful feature in long zooms where camera shake is exaggerated.
